  • 400g pears, cored and sliced
  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced

From your pantry:

For the fruit filling:

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 2 tbsp water

For the crumble topping:

  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup plain flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 75g cold butter, cubed
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced).
  2. Place sliced apples and pears into a medium-sized baking dish.
  3. Add lemon juice, cinnamon, honey or maple syrup and water. Toss gently to combine.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes to begin softening the fruit.
  5. Meanwhile, combine oats, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
  6. Add cold butter and rub it into the dry ingredients using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  7. Remove fruit from the oven and gently stir through sliced bananas.
  8. Scatter the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
  9. Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake for 25–30 minutes until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling and tender.
  10. Allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Serving suggestion: Serve warm with organic custard, natural yoghurt, cream or vanilla ice cream.

Vegan option: Replace butter with plant-based margarine or coconut oil and use maple syrup instead of honey.

Make-ahead tip: Prepare the crumble topping ahead of time and refrigerate until needed.
