Cinnamon Stewed Apples with Custard

A simple, comforting dessert of soft cinnamon-spiced apples served warm with custard. Naturally sweet and lightly spiced, with tasty leftovers for topping yoghurt or porridge the next day.

  • 600g apples (approximately 4–5 apples)

Pantry

  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1–2 tbsp brown sugar, maple syrup or honey, optional
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Custard, to serve

  1. Peel apples if preferred, then core and cut into chunks.
  2. Place apples, water, cinnamon and vanilla in a saucepan.
  3. Cover and cook gently for 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft but still holding some shape.
  4. Taste before adding any sweetener — naturally sweet apples may not need much at all.
  5. Serve warm with custard.

Fridge Rescue Tip:Leftovers are beautiful over yoghurt, porridge or granola the next morning.
