Beef Chow Mein (with Pineapple & Beans)

  • ½ green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

On-hand staples from the pantry

  • 1 cup pineapple pieces (tinned or frozen)
  • 1 brown onion (link to website)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil or a wedge of butter (link to butter on website)
  • 1 tsp cornflour (optional, for thickening)
  • 1/2 cup Basmati Rice (link to website)

  1. Heat oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion & beef mince and cook until browned.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in cabbage and carrot, cook until softened.
  5. Add rice, beans and pineapple.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce and oyster sauce, mix well, and add water to soften.
  7. (Optional) Add cornflour mixed with a little water to thicken.
  8. Simmer for 2–3 minutes and serve hot.
