A Choice For Our Future
One very important reason to choose organic is that organic practices protect our food industry. The major issue of conventional farming is that the practices have been driven by greed and overindulgence to rape our ecosystems of diversity.
Many of the herbicides and pesticides used kill off plants that feed our pollinators. For example, there are actually thousands of species of bees, each with their own flower preference. Killing of these plants in turn kills of the species, causing many to become extinct.
These toxic chemicals damage entire ecosystems, and it may be too late when the regulators and decision makers finally respond to the damage it has done to sustainable food production for our future generations.
The biggest gift you can give to your child, grandchildren and beyond is to make the choice of sustainable agriculture through choosing organic.
A Choice for Their Future
Feeding children organic produce is important for a variety of reasons.
- Choosing organic helps you to avoid artificial additives and flavours such as MSG that have been linked to behavioural challenges.
- Children's bodies and brains grow and change at a much faster rate than adults. This makes them more susceptible to exposure to cancer-causing GMO and development-affecting toxins.
- We live in what many have dubbed an "obesity epidemic". But did you know that prenatal and childhood exposure to agrochemicals is linked with obesity?
- Higher Nutritional Value: Research suggests that organic fruits and vegetables may contain higher levels of certain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants compared to conventionally grown produce. These nutrients are essential for children's immune function, cognitive development, and overall health.
- Allergy and Sensitivity Considerations: Some children may have allergies or sensitivities to pesticides or other chemicals commonly used in conventional farming. Opting for organic produce can reduce the risk of triggering these reactions, providing a safer option for children with specific dietary needs.
How to Encourage Kids to Choose Organic
The best way to educate your children to eat fresh, organic food is to lead by example.
- Talk about the positives of nourishing your body with healthy vitamins and minerals.
- Talk about why you are choosing an organic product and let them make selections when you are ordering your box.
- Bring them for a visit to our farm, or better yet, grow your own so that they learn how food is produced.
Yes, you will likely pay more per kilogram for your organic produce. But if you look at the nutritional content per kilo (which is often much higher per kilo) and the money you save on doctor's bills due to reduced risk of illness, organic truly is the right choice.
