OrganicBox is Committed to Sustainability
Sustainability forms the core of our business, with our small, family-run business taking steps to be sustainable in every aspect.
At OrganicBox have a passion for providing guaranteed ACO products. We want to make a difference in the world now, and the world we leave for future generations.
We operate a certified organic produce, groceries, meat and dairy box delivery service with the following sustainability measures:
Packaging
• All of our packaging is plastic-free and kept to a minimum. We have partnered with BioBag to offer fully compostable bio bags. We use eco-friendly reusable cooler boxes so that produce is kept fresh and tasty while also being the sustainable option.
• For products we have produced ourselves, such as our own wine, we elected to use sustainable packaging made from sugarcane and vegetable ink.
Delivery
• We aim to grown the majority of our produce on our own farm. This significantly reduces transit time and therefore fuel consumption.
• For the remaining produce, we prioritise local first, sourcing local produce and groceries where possible.
• To reduce fuel consumption, we only deliver to 1 area of South Australia per week, with set delivery days for each area.
Reducing Waste
• We despise waste at OrganicBox. Any waste from the farm each week is simply put back into the farm via composting or feeding the animals.
• After an abundant season in our orchard, we realised that this may lead to food spoilage. Rather than let it go to waste, we quickly set about creating a range of Certified organic alcoholic wine and cider, making use of the abundance of pears, grapes and this season, apricots.
• Because we offer boxes dependant on what is in stock, there is very little generated waste.
Mister RYE: Sustainable Straws
Our friends Marion and Alexis are passionate about reducing plastic waste, particularly from plastic drinking straws. They have recently launched a funding campaign to grow Mister RYE; a completely organic, sustainable, environment friendly, natural by-product Rye straw.
We hope that you can help to support them in their vision to provide alternatives to wasteful plastic straws. Their straws will be available through OrganicBox as soon as they become available.
